What is going on at this encounter??
This week at Beit Tefillah we discuss the big controversy in Bereshiyt/Genesis chapter 18. How many individuals does Abraham the patriarch encounter at his ohel (tent)? Who, exactly, does Abraham encounter? Why is this encounter so important in understanding the rest of Scripture?
How is this a controversy? There were three men. “Then the Lord appeared to Abraham”. Yeshua is the only part of God that has appeared in human form. Then it mentions that he saw three men. So it was Yeshua and two angles. Only Yeshua would have accepted the homage that Abraham offered.
Abraham knew who he was speaking to. He offered Yeshua homage and hospitality, and requested that Yeshua not pass him by. The Torah is very clear. I do not understand how this is controversial.
